Monitoring of Near Ground Wind in a Built-Up Suburban Environment
This report provides a comprehensive review of literature on the effect of near
ground environments on the wind profile and wind conditions near to the ground.
Most low-rise construction is subject to a wind environment that is affected by
surrounding obstructions to wind flow. The report includes data from monitoring
of near-ground wind speeds (five stations) and the wind profile (one tower) in
a number of wind events in a built-up suburban condition represented by an
industrial park. This is the first report of two on this topic. Prepared for
the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and the National
Association of Home Builders by the NAHB Research Center.
