System Performance of Wood Header Assemblies
This study investigates the bending load performance of single wood members,
double wood members (i.e., headers), and multiple wood members including floor
framing. Findings detailed in this report include that significant system
effects are present in typical wood frame header assemblies, and that a
repetitive member bending stress increase factor is applicable to double member
systems. These findings are intended to improve the efficient design of wood
headers in typical light frame wall systems. Prepared for the U.S. Department
