Reliability of Light-Frame Roof Systems Subject to Wind Uplift
This study compliments the reliability study conduction by the NAHB Research
Center on Hurricane Andrew. It evaluates the range of reliability expected in
various roof construction practices and indicates areas of strength and
weakness from the perspective of risk. It also uses long-term wind records to
evaluate wind risk in hurricane-prone regions in lieu of modeled hurricane
risks currently serving as a foundation for design wind speeds. The study was
conducted at Clemson University. Prepared for NAHB Research Center by David V.
Rosowksy and Ninqiang Cheng, Department of Civil Engineering, Clemson
University.
