Commercialization of Innovations: Lessons Learned
This report takes a look at two relatively innovative technologies-Exterior
Insulated Finishing Systems (EIFS) and Engineered Wood I-Joists. Several
important recommendations are suggested for improving the diffusion of
innovation in the residential construction industry. Based on the difficulties
these innovations experienced during commercialization, the Partnership for
Advancing Technology in Housing (PATH) derived general advice that could be
applied to the incorporation of new technologies by homebuilders and
dissemination of information to building officials and others concerned with
innovation in the housing industry.
