Mineral Fiber Loose-Fill Thermal Insulation and Manufacturers

The NAHB Research Center prepares and tests mineral fiber insulation products in accordance with ASTM Standards C687 and C518. Every effort is made to replicate the equipment and techniques of an experienced contractor. Test samples are blown with a representative blowing machine, through a standard hose, and into a simulated attic space. Area coverage is evaluated and a specimen tray is removed for testing thermal properties.

Certification Process

Monthly in-plant inspections include examining the manufacturer’s quality assurance records and a random sampling of 30 bags of each certified product to verify coverage and R-value.
