Mineral Fiber Unfaced Metal Building Insulation and Manufacturers

The NAHB Research Center expanded its insulation program in 1991 to include insulation for metal buildings in the commercial sector.

Program criteria are based on the thermal resistance requirements of NAIMA Standard 202® (Rev. 2000). The standard was updated in 1996 to increase thermal requirements and to compensate for damage inflicted by the process of laminating facings onto the insulation. The revised standard and product designation is NAIMA 202-96® (Rev. 2000).

Certification Process

Quarterly plant inspections include examination of quality control procedures and records. Randomly-selected product samples are tested for dimension, density, and thermal resistance (conducted in accordance with ASTM C653 and ASTM C518).
