NAHB and NAHB Research Center Offer Safety Training Seminars to the Home
Building Industry
June 14, 2004, Upper Marlboro, Md. - The National Association
of Home Builders (NAHB) and the NAHB Research Center have partnered to offer
home builder safety and health management training that focuses on safety and
health issues. The four-hour seminars will be offered to home builders and
trade contractors and are funded by a grant from the United States Department
of Labor, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), and sponsored
by NAHB's local home builder associations.
Seminars will be offered in 12 locations across the country between July and
September this year. They will focus on the development and effective
implementation of company safety and health programs, emphasize why safety and
health programs are important, and educate attendees on how to create and
implement such programs.
Attendees will receive a student manual and CD-ROM with a how-to guide that can
be customized to meet individual businesses' safety needs. Seminar content will
assist employees in understanding their responsibilities, establishing
effective safety procedures, reducing workers' compenstation insurance
premiums, and creating systems for collecting the information and records
required by OSHA and insurance companies. Implementation of the safety and
health program may help companies reduce or eliminate accidents that cause:
-
Injury to workers
-
Electrical Shock (overhead powerline, electrical tools and wiring)
-
Falls from overhead (floors, platforms, roofs)
-
Struck by hazards (falling objects, vehicles)
