Directory of Accessible Building Products Released at 2007 International
Builders' Show
February 7, 2007, Orlando, Fla. - To assist the home building industry in
meeting the independent-living needs of the nation's aging population, the NAHB
Research Center released its 17th edition of the Directory of Accessible
Building Products (DABP) at the 2007 International Builders' Show
(IBS). The DABP was created to be a convenient, one-stop purchasing resource
for building professionals addressing residential accessibility, and features
over 200 commercially available products for aging-in-place and universal
design.
The DABP continues to be a powerful tool for builders and remodelers seeking
practical products to satisfy the increasing market demand for more functional
housing options for older adults and homeowners with accessibility challenges.
Standard features of the directory include photos and illustrations of kitchen
and bath products, appliances, and fixtures. Other sections focus on home
automation, climate control, stair lifts, ramps, accessible floor plans, and
easy care products for exterior use. Featured products are not only functional,
but also attractive, with choices in style, finish, color, and price range.
Most are readily available for purchase and installation.
NAHB Research Center president Michael Luzier said, "As the aging population
continues to grow, the home building industry must act to gain a greater
understanding of how to accommodate the specialized needs of this market
segment. The DABP is a must-have reference for all builders and remodelers."
Most adults don't like to think that they will experience physical changes or
develop age-related conditions that will limit some of their daily activities.
But there's no escaping the effects of time - so the ability to live
comfortably, safely, and independently for as long as possible is greatly
enhanced with the benefit of products designed for accessibility.
The Directory of Accessible Building Products is provided by the Research Center
through the generous sponsorship of Lowe's, NAHB's 50+ Housing Council, and the
Remodeler's Council. Copies will be available, free of charge, to IBS attendees
at the NAHB Research Center's ToolBase Services booth, located in the National
Association of Home Builders (NAHB) Member Advantage Headquarters, West
Building, B Hall lobby while supplies last. To order a copy, visit
www.ToolBase.org/dabp or call (800) 638-8556 ($6.50 shipping and
handling fee). Manufacturers interested in listing their accessible product(s)
in the 2008 DABP, or Certified Aging in Place Specialist (CAPS) professionals
seeking multiple copies for distribution, should
contact the Research Center.
