National Green Building Certification Reaches New Milestone

350 Verifiers Now Available Nationwide

January 19, 2009, Las Vegas, Nev. - The NAHB Research Center has accredited its 350th verifier for National Green Building Certification, which assures homeowners and the community that home building projects meet the national certification criteria of the NAHB Model Green Home Building Guidelines and truly are green.

As the sole certifying body for NAHB's National Green Building Program, the NAHB Research Center trains and authorizes people to inspect and verify procedures covering lot design and development, water and resource conservation, use of sustainable or recycled products, indoor air quality, and energy efficiency.

"Accredited third-party verification lends credibility to green projects," according to Michael Luzier, president of the NAHB Research Center. "All verifier candidates must meet rigorous prerequisites, complete a comprehensive training session, and pass a verifier accreditation test administered by the NAHB Research Center."

Interested, qualified individuals must have at least a baseline understanding of general home building practices and specific "green" building knowledge through training or experience in the industry. Registration for all verifier training sessions must be completed online at www.nahbgreen.org. Please call the NAHB National Green Building Program Hotline at (877) NAHB-GRN for additional information.

Builders can find a list of accredited National Green Building Certification verifiers at www.nahbgreen.org.
